Offering Mental Health and Behavioral Therapy for Children, Adolescents, Adults, and Families
Laura’s area of expertise is working with foster and adoptive children, adolescents, and their families. She uses psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems(IFS), Theraplay (directive play therapy), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Clinical Hypnosis, narrative, and cognitive behavioral strategies to help clients resolve trauma and develop healthy relationships. Laura also works with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing depression, anxiety, family and parenting issues, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), attachment issues, ADHD, and bereavement.
Treating behavior alone does not solve the core problem. Laura helps people of all ages deal with underlying traumas to lessen symptoms of depression and anxiety. Laura works with parents and children in therapy together whenever possible to help to increase the child's ability to generalize learned skills into his or her environment (and to build on the parent-child relationship). Laura counsels from a Christian perspective, but respects and works with individuals having a wide range of beliefs. Laura believes every person has a unique set of strengths, and strives to motivate clients toward lifelong change.
Laura has over twenty years of experience in mental health services, including working in the home, school, community, and outpatient settings, and as a clinical supervisor. She also offers trainings to both parents and professionals.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, Laura is able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that often result from traumatic events. Laura can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and trauma resolve.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to families of all types who are looking to strengthen their emotional connections. Therapy sessions are held with parents and children together and are a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationships.
